Sapporo hire a car for 2 days?

We fly into Sapporo late July and have 7 days before reaching Tokyo. If we hired a car at Chitoze airport to go to a National Park suggestions please of route.
From Sapporo head south on Shinkasen to Tokyo, ideas on places en route to visit please. We have visited southern Japan last year.

If I were you I would fly to Rishiri and then explore Rishiri & Rebun. And then take ferry to Wakkanai where you can catch direct flight to Tokyo. JAL and ANA provides promotional fare for foreign travelers so you will pay only 10800 yen for Wakkanai to Tokyo, and maybe Sapporo to Rishiri is even cheaper. Sapporo to Tokyo is very long travel (more than 8 hours) so I don't recommend it.
