Hitachi Seaside Park in Summer - Worth Going? 2018/7/10 00:01
HI All,

Considering that Hitachi Seaside Park is hard to travel to, and summer isn't the season for floral blooms, I'd like to ask those who are familiar, whether it is worth visiting this park during summer. I'm in Tokyo from 24-30 July, and intend to buy Tokyo Wide Pass. Initially I was intending to see Hitachi Seaside Park but I don't see many summer photos of this place.

It is not that there are no flowers. They are most well known for the blue nemophila and the orange kochia in autumn. Having said that, though, end of July might be somewhat of an in-between period, i must admit. Lavender and lilies (shown as "in bloom now" on the photos) might be gone by then.

I went there this year - it was supposed to be good for the nemophila but this year spring started about 10 days sooner than normal, and if mother nature decides to stick her middle finger in your face there is little you can do about it. There was little else to enjoy, but the roses were good. Combined with a visit to Kairakuen in Mito it was not a total loss at all - but given the cost and time involved to get there, it left something to be desired.

You might consider going to the Showa Kinen Koen in the other direction instead (only about 25 minutes by train from Shinjuku). It also has some good flowers.
