Hi,
I'm trying to figure out the best train passes to buy given the following places I am planning to visit (over the span of 2.5 weeks). I've visited Japan before and got the JR pass, but I'm not sure if that's still the best option for this itinerary:
Oct 2: Fly to Osaka Oct 3-5: Kyoto/Nara Oct 6-10: Tokyo/Yokohama Oct 11-18: Hakodate/Noboribetsu/Sapporo Oct 19: Fly from Sapporo
Thanks!

Your long distance travel would be Kyoto to Nara on Oct 6, Tokyo to Hakodate/Noboribetsu/ Sapporo on Oct 11-18. There should be at least two options. 1. Buy Japan Rail Pass 7 days (29110 yen) starting on Oct 6 and buy individual tickets for Hakodate to Noboribetsu (6890 yen) and Noboribetsu to Sapporo (4480 yen). Total: 40480 yen 2. Buy normal ticket from Kyoto to Tokyo (13910 yen) and The JR Tohoku-South Hokkaido Rail Pass (19000 yen). http://www.jreasthokkaido.com/tohokuhokkaido/e/Total: 32910 yen. Which is better depends on your actual itinerary.
