Hi, May I know if national road are toll free as opposed to expressways (noted by E plus number) that have chargeable tolls? Can some kind souls look through my driving itinerary and advise if I should get the 7 day Hokkaido Expressway Pass? I tried calculating using the northern road website but it is beyond me as it is in Japanese. Day 1 Chitose to Sapporo Day 2 Sapporo to Hokuryu, Rumoi and Asahikawa Day 3 Drive to Mt Asahidake Day 4 Drive from Asahikawa to Biei and Furano Day 5 Drive from Asahikawa to Sounkyo Gorge then to Shintoku (Sahoro Resort) Day 7 Drive from Shintoku to Tomamu, Shintoku to Obihiro then Yubari and Chitose Day 8 Drive from Chitose to Sapporo/Otaru then New Chitose airport. Thank you Melvyn

I am not so confident but I think your drive will use following toll road.
Day 1 Shin-Chitose Kuko to Sapporo Minami (1000 yen) Day 2 Sapporo-Kita to Fukagawa-Nishi (3210yen) and Fukagawa-Nishi to Asahikawa-Kita (1380 yen) Day 7 Tokachi-Shimizu to Tomamu (720 yen), Tomamu to Memuro-Obihiro (1340 yen), Memuro-Obihiro to Yubari (2950 yen), and Yubari to Shin-Chitose-Kuko (1520 yen). Day 8 Shin-Chitose-Kuko to Otaru to Shin-Chitose-Kuko (2220 yen *2=4440 yen) Total 16560 yen.
Hokkaido Express Way Pass 8 days 8200 yen will pay off.
