Okunoshima (Rabbit Island) in December?

I'll be traveling to Japan and might want to visit Okunoshima/Ohkunoshima, but it'll be in mid-December (around the 18th-19th of December). Because it's winter, is it still worth a visit or are masses of rabbits tucked away where they can find shelter? Thanks in advance for any insight you may have!

They are there and you can find them, but just a note that if you are expecting to have a hundred of them rush you like some old videos online, you are going to be quite disappointed. I wandered over there not to long ago and there were several small clusters of them here and there, happy to take a handout, but nothing like the videos portrayed. To the point that it was really questionable if it was worth all the time to get over there in the first place.
