Dohoku bus from Asahikawa to Lake Akan

I'm planning a trip for Feb 2019 and will need to take a Dohoku bus from Asahikawa to Lake Akan (5hr bus ride). Can anyone advise if there will be any toilet breaks in between and if i can grab a bento along the way?
On a side note, is Sounkyo (Sounkyo Ice Festival) worth a visit? i will need to sacrifice time in Asahiyama zoo if i decide to go to stay in Sounkyo. I'll also be at Lake Akan and Tokachigawa onsen (+Sairinka), so will Sounkyo Ice Festival be similar to what these places offer?
