Too vague question to answer. Offer up some details of requirements.

What kind of accommodation are you looking for? Hotel, inn, or maybe private house?
Regarding lodgment at a private house (called commonly as minpaku in Japanese), under the national regulation since the 15th of June 2018, a businessperson cannot offer lodgment for more than 180 days in a year. That means a minpaku property recommended by someone may be unavailable for the night when you hope to stay.
Regrettably it seems there are dishonest persons who pretend to have a license for running a lodgment business and maneuver to earn money. Entries with a false license number have been found on the website of AirBnb; in such cases, that lodgment business may be unlawfully run. (Lodgment agencies like AirBnb are not legally responsible for such a wrong entry unless they can notice it.)
You had better confirm, at least, that a host gives you a true postal code (in the 000-0000 form). On Google Maps, you can locate a place in Japan with a true postal code for the district and the name of the prefecture.
