Need your advice about work visa without JLPT 2018/9/7 03:15
Hi everyone,

I need your help. The thing is that I'm looking for a job in Japan and planning to change my student visa to work visa as specialist in humanities. I hold a bachelor degree in Japanese translations' related field and I have been studies in Japan for more than 1 year but I haven't got JLPT level N2 or N1, because last time I tried to pass N1 I was close but failed (I still have N3 tho). I will try next time, but if I'll find a work earlier can I be rejected to change my visas type due to this fact? Immigration will see my diploma and my records but I saw there is N2-N1 jLPT required when you apply for such kind of work visa so I'm confused. Is that true or my diploma and Japanese language related degree will be a proof that I am qualified for working with Japanese language/translations?

I hope someone know more about their criteria than me or have such an experience to get work visa without N2-N1.

Translation, like language teaching, is "International Service", not "Specialist in Humanities". Although the two statuses are now merged, the difference in required qualifications remains. For translation/language teaching, it's either three years' experience OR a university degree, and if you have a degree it can be in any field, not necessarily a related one. No language certification is required; assessing your language proficiency is left to the employer (the employer may of course require it).
