Any area with deciduous trees will produce rhinoceros beetles, but I do not know enough about stag beetles. I keep a very large compost pile of fallen leaves and shredded small limbs, and it produces a large crop of rhinoceros beetles every year.

At the right time of year - on my property in Chiba. (no snark intended)
But I will say, I have spent a lot of time in the forests, and I have never come across either of these beetles while hiking about. I do have a tree that attracts the rhinoceros beetle as it oozes sap which they apparently like, since I have counted 20+ at one time. Unfortunately I do not know the name of this tree, but in time I will find out.
