Mt Yari and Hotaka - Early June 2018/11/13 12:09
Hi all, I will be traveling to Japan from mid-May to early June next year. I'd love to pay a visit to the alps and and am wanting to do some hiking there, but English resources are scarce.

I'm interested in hiking Mt. Yarigatake and Mt. Okuhotaka-dake via the Daikiretto, following the same route in this post: https://www.japan-guide.com/blog/peaks/171005.html. I was wondering if there is any information available in English regarding the accessibility of this hike during the first week of June. What equipment would be necessary? What are snow levels along the trail? Is the trail easy to follow with snow? Are any parts of the trails inaccessible or only accessible for experienced ice climbers?

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi!

I read about that hike as well, and while it sounds fascinating, I know it is way beyond my abilities. I did a little research though to try to get you some more information since I felt bad that no one had responded to you.

I found this site about Hotaka:

And this one about Mt. Yari:

Unless it is unseasonably warm, since you're talking about the beginning of June the pictures for May are probably more apt.

You could try emailing this person who completed the hike about doing it in June:

I hope this information proves somewhat helpful.
