Driving Yoshino to Shingu

In March we will stay a night at a monastery in Yoshino and then would like to drive to Shingu. We can see two fairly direct routes on maps but can't find any details about which might be more pleasant, what sights to see along the way etc.? Both seem to take about 3 hr driving . Has anyone driven this direction and can offer suggestions please?
