Toddler riding Yufuin No Mori

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if a toddler (2 years old) needs a reserve ticket on the Yufuin No Mori. JR Kyushu states toddlers ride for free, but a toddler or an infant needs to pay child fare if they requires a reserved seat or a Green Car seat. The Yufuin No Mori are all reserved seats. I was planning for her to sit on my lap. Thanks!

You answered your own question. You have a reserved seat. Your toddler does not need a seat and rides free.

Your child needs to pay for a seat only if she occupies a seat by herself. Since she sits on your lap, she travels for free.
