Would you come to Japan? As you know, such festivals which you see in manga or anime works may be real or imaginary events. Firework festivals in Japan (other than nationwide competitions) are basically local events, I suppose, and a small number of them are bigger in the scale of the exhibition and/or highly popular (i.e. spectator-drawing).

Hi omotenashi, thanks for replying.
Yes, I would come to Japan. I have an interest in Japan and its culture and am working towards a possible trip in the near future. I was interested in those really local like a town within a prefecture celebrating the firework festival themselves, or anything event that would allow me to immerse in Japan and its culture.
Hope you can help me.

Japan is a really big place but most firework festivals occur in August. Do note that even small towns can go all out and have huge crowds. I've visited a small town on the Izu Peninsula and over 100,000 people came to the city for the main fireworks display - but they were impressive!
