SIM card - traveling in Japan 2019/3/7 01:21
Hello,

I will be traveling to Tokyo & Kyoto. I'm looking to purchase a SIM card for my smart phone while I'm there so I have Internet access. I only need data SIM. Can anyone recommend a couple of good brands to
buy and where to buy them? Are they available at Haneda Airport?

I had a good experience with Simcard Geek last autumn: https://www.simcardgeek.com/product-category/japan-sim-cards-for-touri... It was quite cheap and it worked. They also offer airport collection at Haneda and other airports (in this case its good to give post office staff the parcel number so they can easily find the package). I think I had a SIM with 10GB data but today I would buy just the cheapest one with 3GB data because there is usually WiFi at hotels and other places so I didnt need so much data anyway.

Haens,

I just checked the link you posted. It looks like a very good company. It says they ship the SIM card worldwide for free. That's usually unheard of. I like the "unlimited for 8 days" and it's only JPY 40000.
That's very reasonable. But I am going to be there for 10 days. I need data the moment I land to the moment I leave. The other two are 3GB/30 days and 10GB/30 days. I wish they offer unlimited for 10, 14 days.

Any other ones you or others can suggest?

Correction: the 8 day sim should be JPY 4000.

Mobal has unlimited SIM for 16 days (its basically the same thing as that Sim card geek): https://www.mobal.com/japan-sim-card/

List of some other SIM options (not done by me :-) https://prepaidsim.visitjapanplaces.com/prepaidsim

You said "Mobal has unlimited SIM for 16 days (its basically the same thing as that Sim card geek): https://www.mobal.com/japan-sim-card/";

It looks like you need to buy two things separately. You have to buy the SIM card and choose a plan to go with it. This more expensive. I was also looking at "amazon.com" (in USA) for SIM to be used in Asia.
Saw some good feedbacks on these. Anyone used these before? I could get one for 14-days for < USD25.
I haven't decided whether to try these on amazon.com or pick one up from Haneda. Saw some postings about BIC CAMERA in Tokyo as well.

Simcard geek is just selling Mobals SIMs. On the Mobal webpage you need to search in "Short term" offers, there are just pure SIMs without need to choose some plan.

SBK1983,

Thanks for the youtube link.

Pretty clear as to where & how to get it even I though I don't understand what the guy is saying. I can
tell you it's German. :)

I can also recommend Mobal and Sim card geek it appears that they are both the same company but offer slightly different cards. I originally ordered here https://www.simcardgeek.com/ but then became aware that Mobal offer a voice option.
