Driving from Haneda to Fuji Five Lakes

I'm arriving 7am on a weekday. Is the route to Fuji Five Lakes 'easy' or is there a good chance of taking a wrong turn?
I'm worried because I looked at Google Maps and the route descriptions are in Japanese.
Is it better to go by train and rent a car at Fujikawaguchiko?

There is a very good chance you could take a wrong turn.
The good news is the you can get English satnavs from your hire car agent and most of the major street signs have romaji text also on them.

Thank you. Is the traffic likely to be heavy next week? Going early morning around 9am, returning for a 10pm flight weekday.

Have you considered taking a direct bus all the way to the lakes and back? http://bus-en.fujikyu.co.jp/highway/detail/id/4I'm a local driver in Greater Tokyo, and I would never want to drive long-distance to a place I don't know the road to, especially if I'm catching a flight, moreover if I know I will be tired from the trip. I would rather leave it to an experienced bus driver who knows alternative roads once the bus gets caught in rush hour traffic, and take a nap whenever I want to. I wouldn't be confident with foreign signs, foreign traffic rules or the foreign side of the road, either.

Thank you. Is it possible to buy the bus tickets before I arrive? I'm afraid it might be full on that day.

Good point about the tickets. Although their website tells you about how you can buy tickets while in Japan, they don't mention anything about boarding upon arrival to the country. You can try calling them at their international phone numbers where it says "Contact us" http://bus-en.fujikyu.co.jp/highway/detail/id/4/#fareFujikyu Call CenterTEL: 81-555-73-8181 (Operation hours 7:30 to 20:00) Keihin Express Sales CounterTEL: 81-3-3743-0022 (Operation hours 9:00 to 18:30) An email address does show on their Japanese page, but I'm not sure if you can write to them in a foreign language. http://www.fujikyu.co.jp/contact/index.htmltraffic@fujikyu.co.jp I hope it helps.

Driving from the airport is fairly simple. K1 road out to the E1 which will take you all the way to Fuji-San. Google maps will guide you with no hassle.
Also Most rentals in Japan come with built in sat nav. So most of the time the customer service rep will input where you want to go.
I have driven on Japanese roads a lot of the last few years and its pretty relaxed. If you do take a wrong turn just stay calm pull over safely ask for help or review your route to get back on it.
If you dont want to deal with any Tokyo Traffic I would recommend taking the shinkasen to Fuji and renting a car near the station. Enjoy your trip.

I can't get through the telephone number listed for the Call Centre. Invalid number.
Do I need to add any zeros or something extra if I'm calling from outside Japan?

It depends on your phone company. I just dial 1-81-xxx-xxx. ..... Your company might be different. Also, leave off the "0" before the area code (1-81-0965 =>1-81-965) if you're in the US. The "0" in the US puts you on a high speed expensive line, it works but you pay more.

If you're making an international call from a mobile phone, you may have to add an exit code such as a "+" on top of the phone number. So for example, it would be
+81 3 3743 0022
For more details, ask your phone company.
