Can I leave Japan? 2019/4/21 13:29
I applied to change my status of residency from instructor to specialist in humanities but I havenft received the postcard back yet.

Ifm supposed to leave to visit family for Golden Week. Is it going to be okay for me to travel abroad while my application is still pending if I donft get a result before then? The immigration hotline wouldnft give me a straight answer.

Thank you so much in advance.

What is the end of your current period of stay (the one written on your residence card)?

No problem then. The only small issue you may have is if the postcard arrives while you are away and you can't go to the immigration office by the prescribed time. You should probably contact the immigration office where you filed your application (not the hotline, they are useless) to let them know that you will be away. Alternatively, if you can ask someone to check your mail while you are away, you can see if the postcard arrives and call them only if it does.

Thank you very much for the info. I will be gone 4/25-5/7, and due to the 10-day golden week holiday I feel like Ifll get the postcard either before or after then because the immigration office will be closed during those holidays so I wouldnft be able to go pick it up even if I was here.
