rate my itinerary for 3 weeks (second trip)

at the moment this is my prefered itinerary for my second trip
i visited tokyo, osaka, Kyoto, kanazawa, kamikochi, naoshima, Hiroshima, nikko, Kamakura, miyajima, okayama, hakone the first time

i scrapped the idea of Nagasaki because the only reason i wanted to visit Nagasaki is teshima and im not sure its worth the detour. Since im travelling in oktober the change of heavy sea is a big change of cancellation

i really like this itinerary aswell lesser travelling more sight seeing

You have some big differences in your proposed plans - ultimately only you can decide if going to the San'in side is better for you than the alternatives. Plus for some plans, you might make a 14-day JR Pass pay off, but it's still iffy. You might run your plans through the rail pass calculator.

A few things that jump out, is that you don't appear to have visited Nara at all yet, which to me is a terrible oversight. The city has some of Japan's best places.

I also didn't notice you seeing Himeji either, and that is well worth half a day or more.

Kobe has some places to see just like anywhere, but the above are far better. Also I don't quite follow what you're saying about Nagasaki and Teshima. Nagasaki is an excellent place to visit and a unique place in Japan.

For Fukuoka, there are some good places to see - I highly recommend Nanzoin.

But why you add Itoshima is unclear. There are some places but better with a car and not train or bus. You could see Dazaifu and Yanagawa together though.
And on the way back, you could if you like stop by Iwakuni. It's a nice charming place and really special in the country.

i meant hashima instead of teshima, dont know if its worth the detour to Nagasaki

since i have to flight 12 hours to japan i didnt want to travel that long to my first hotel and since i visted osaka allready i thought kobe was a nice alternative for a day
but this updated plan is mayb better

I like all the itineraries you have typed up. None seem rushed and all would be enjoyable.

I do have a personal comment on visit only Fukuoka. I love Fukuoka city. I am normal one of the first to say go visit Fukuoka. I think it is one of the better cities in Japan. Modern like Tokyo/Osaka but no where near as crowded with locals or tourists.

But with your itineraries. I find Fukuoka is a long way to go just to ignore the rest of Kyushu and only do Fukuoka city. I would omit Fukuoka if you are only doing Fukuoka. I think it is somewhat a lot of lost travel time just to do Fukuoka.

Yanagawa (as one of the only few locations you have suggested outside Fukuoka) is nice old town and boat/canal rides. But Omihachiman just 30 mins outside Kyoto also have a old town and canal/boat rides of very similar appeal.

the ferry from Kansai airport to kobe isnt in the jr pass so i makes sense to base in osaka instead and make a visit to nara and the castle

about Fukuoka hmz i allready scraped Nagasaki since it wasnt on the route
i will buy a 3 week jr pass so its doable
but i can switch the 4 days Fukuoka part for
takamatsu (from okyama) instead travel to Fukuoka (better than sitting in the train)
omihachiman (from osaksa) instead of Yanagawa, (lesser traveltime and lesser touristic)
shōdoshima (from okayama) instead of day in Fukuoka (i think a day in Fukuoka is better than shodoshima)
nokogiriyama / yokoyama (from tokyo) instead of day in Fukuoka / nanzoin (i think i like nokogiriyama better than nanzoin)

are those places better?
seams like shodoshima is the least favorite place for me of all those places
