Shinkansen Kyoto to Tokyo - Mt. Fuji 2019/7/3 03:01
I'm told that to see Mt. Fuji on Tokyo you want C/D/E (depending on class) to see Mt. Fuji. If you're going to Kyoto to Tokyo, what seats should you get? A/B?

I am not 100% sure BUT the train itself doesnft turn when it arrives in Tokyo. Only the seats WITHIN the train turn (and actually if you are in a group and sitting together you can turn them to form a group), so this should mean that itfs seat E from Tokyo as well.

Even if the direction of travel of the train changes, the seat numbers will not change.

So,
Ordinary : E (3+2, ABC + DE)
Green : D (2+2, AB + CD)

If in summer, humid and less snow, so not the best, though.

Tokaido Shinkansen uses 3+3 seating abc + def for regular seating. Not 3+2 as stated above.

Tokaido Shinkansen is 3+2 in regular car and 2+2 in green car https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/train/shinkansen/tokaido-sanyo-shin...

Thanks!

I'm used to China's High Speed Trains where the seats are fixed and I guess they do turn around at the endpoint.

Tokaido Shinkansen has been 3+2 for decades. I don't know when Hakata14 last boarded one, but he is mistaken.

It depends on the weather - if cloudy or hazy, you cannot see it. I have been disappointed many times.

Hi!

We just took the shinkansen from Nagoya to Tokyo about a week ago and didn't see Mt. Fuji because of the clouds. But about a week before that we flew Narita to Itami and got a terrific view from the air. JAL has a website for figuring out which flights and seats have a Fuji view and they announce it during the flight just in case.

Good luck!

haha I am mistaken. My apologies.

I don't know what I was thinking. I was thinking of the 2+2 regular seating in the N700-7000 series shinakansens on the Sanyo line and somehow converted that into 3+3 for the Tokaido line shinkansen.

So yes. Seat "E" is the north facing regular window seat in both directions. Book it for a chance to see Fujisan. In twelve passes, I haven't seen it from the shinkansen once.
