From Kyoto to Nara with Kansai Hiroshima RP

Hi,

On Friday we use the Kansai Hiroshima railpass to go from Kyoto to Tadanoumi. Next day we go from Tadanoumi to Nara. The tokaido shinkansen can not be used. Where should I change from ordinary train to Shinkansen going to Tadanoumi? And where should I get of the shinkansen travelling to Nara?

Hyperdia.com your friend. Also, if you are not aware, you can't ride the Shinkansen between Kyoto and Shin-Osaka as that sector is not operated by JR West. You can take other trains such as limited express, special rapid services etc

Actually Hyperdia is not perfect in your case. Kansai Hiroshima Pass does not allow Tokaido Shinkansen as you noted, so you must start your Shinkansen travel from Shin-Osaka or more western stations. Hyperdia does not show direct answer, nor does Jorudan which is nice for nation-wide JR pass holders but not for other passes.

Then where should you change trains? It should be west of Shin-Osaka (including Shin-Osaka). Shin-Kobe is not good since it does not have local train station. Himeji is too far. So practically you have no choice other than Shin-Osaka. You should start with Shin-Osaka to Tadanoumi

Note that there are not so many options from Shin-Osaka to Tadanoumi since the local trains arriving Tananoumi are not frequent.

From Tadanoumi to Nara your best option is via Tennoji since you can't take Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka to Kyoto.
