JR Pass for Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto?

I'll be travelling to Japan in September with my family of 4 adults, including first 2 days in Osaka, then 3 days in Kyoto, then 2 days in Tokyo. What's the best transportation to travel between these cities? Does it worth buying a JR Pass to cover these cities?
Many thanks for any good advice. Anna

A 7-day JR Pass comes close to paying off with a round trip between Kansai and Tokyo. If you're not going back to Kyoto/Osaka, the pass won't be cost-effective.

My advice is to check your itinerary on Hyperdia to be completely sure that the Japan Rail Pass pays off. I recommend this because the pass is only worthy if you travel on long-distance trips. For example, on day trips. This guide may help you, as it's explained step by step how to use this transportation planning tool: https://www.jrailpass.com/hyperdiaHope you enjoy the trip with your family!
