After Mt. Shirouma-dake stay Hakuba or Nagano

Hi,
We are planning to do the Mt. Shirouma-dake hike. After it we will go to Kyoto. But is it recommended to stay after the hike in Hakuba or is Nagano reachable? How long takes day two?
On one hand Hakuba can be relaxed after hike but on the other Nagano is a new city to visit en on our way. What do you recommend?
