Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass 2019/7/29 09:53
Hello, I planning to travel to Takayama from Osaka in December via the Wide View Hida Train and was considering buying the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass.

As I understand there is a Wide View Train departing from Osaka all the way to Takayama, with a merging train joining at Gifu. I was wondering if this train is included in the Takayma-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass- last I checked the Wide View Train was included but the route between Osaka and Takayama was not drawn as included- and so was confused whether it was included or not?

Alternatively, does anyone know how much a round ticket from Osaka to Takayama would cost? If the journey between Osaka and Takayama is not included in the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Pass, I am planning to buy it individually as the only other place we are visiting in Shirakawago.

No that section is not included.

Costs can be found using google maps or hyperdia.

The section Yamashina -- Maibara -- Gifu of the Tokaido Line
is outside the validity area of this tourist pass.

Yamashina Station, which is skipped by Limited Express trains,
is the station east next to Kyoto Station.

The JR cost for you to travel on a Limited Express for this section
is about 4000 yen per way.

Unlike other regular Hida trains,
Limited Express Wide View Hida 25 (for Takayama) / 36 (for Osaka)
goes by the Tokaido Line until / beyond Gifu Station.

The part Kyoto -- Maibara,
which is called as Biwako Line by JR-West,
is mostly along the east shore of Lake Biwa.

You see on the area map for this pass
that the available route is mainly along the west shore of Lake Biwa
between Kyoto and Tsuruga.
