Bike trip 2019/8/8 02:39
Hi,

We, senior couple, did Shimanami Kaido few years ago, loved it. I am aware of Tobishima Kaido and will consider it.

Any other bike trip recommendations? We want multi-day trips, not day trips.

Thanks, PH

YES, a lot.

I did 2 months plus transport by train... (if train you need to bag up your bicycle) and still have LOADS of places where Ifd like to ride.

Here my blog for an oversight:

I am not a strong cyclist so no mountains

In the planning section you can find my plans. I hadnft time to realize all of them (yet) and in the Rides section summaries of the actual rides including strava maps.

My personal cycling highlights are these: (not all of them multiple days)

For multiple days I think my favorites would be Kansai:

But also check out Nara Prefecture http://bicycletraveljapan.blogspot.com/search/label/Nara

Other great areas for multiple days could be:
- Shimanto area in Shikoku
- Yamanashi (havenft been yet but plan to go later this year hopefully. Some cycling friends in Tokyo recommended it)
- Wakkanai to Rumoi (specially if you go in summer!)
- Izumo/Matsue
-Tono Valley and Hiraizumi
-Yamagata
-Sado Island
...

If you have any specific questions during your planning, happy to help

Enjoy planning your ride!

All of @LikeBike's suggestions are good as usual and her blog is very helpful. I haven't done multi day rides as I like to have a base to explore from but I can say that I really liked the Tobishima kaido although it is a flat road round the islands. I should have stopped & done more sightseeing rather than completing the route in a day. Maybe stopping overnight near Okamura at https://sekizen.eyado.net/ The Maruseki cafe there is very welcoming http://marusekicafe.com/ There is also some really nice riding on Kyushu. Both north of Nagasaki up to Sasebo & in the Kagoshima area and down to the southern tip of the island.

Thanks for replies

Tobishima sounds great, and assurances of flatness is helpful. We would stay 2 nights during ride, any other suggestions welcomed.

Looks like we have to rent in Imabari, may add Shikoku too.

Thanks, PH
