Can you do spouse visa while in Japan?

Stupid question, but I am stupid. So, during my research for spouse visa, I had no idea at all about change of status of residence. So, I came to Japan and applied for a COE instead, because I read somewhere in this forum that you can change your visa to spouse visa while in Japan, not aware that this is a completely different thing.

Though I do want to know if anyone had any experience of changing their status using COE instead of the direct method?

There is only one method to change your status, it is to submit a change of status application. Submitting your CoE as an additional document may or may not help.
