Tsunan Snow Festival

I don't know if anyone has been or knows. We were thinking about going to the Tsunan Snow Festival in March 2020, but I'm not sure how to go back home after the lantern event.
I've read that you can't park in Tsunan city or in the New Greenpia Tsunan Venue. Does anyone know if you can park anywhere nearby? Like Nakafukami or Oaza Maibarahei?
Also, does anyone know how can you get tickets for the lantern festival? I've read that those also include parking.
And I've read that there's a Shuttle Bus from the venue to Tsunan, does anyone know until what time does it run at night that weekend? And once you are in Tsunan city, how do you go back home if you are staying in Muikamachi or Echigoyuzawa? I've seen that there are no more trains from 8pm. Do you need to go by taxi? And if that's the case, will there be enough taxis for everyone? Can you call a taxi to come and get you?
I can't seem to find answers to these questions in internet. I hope someone knows. Thanks for the help

You can go with your own car (including rental car), by taxi, or as part of an organised tour. However, you can go with your own car only if you have a ticket that includes parking, and those are attributed by lottery. I don't know about the situation with taxis, but if I were you I would call local taxi companies in advance to ask if it's possible to reserve one.

And about the shuttle bus, it only runs between the festival venue and the parking lot in Tsunan, so it's only useful if you are parked there (i.e., if you have a ticket for it).

Hi Rosa, We are 20 years old tourists that also planning to visit Tsunan snow festival, but we are so confused. according to the website it says that if you stay until the lantern flies, the bus and the train won't be running at that time, so what tourists without cars should do? and where should we stay the night? is there some organized groups that we can join ?

If you don't have a car, your options are to join a tour (yes, there are some, Google is your friend), book a room at one of the hotels that are within walking distance of the parking areas (where the shuttle buses go), or arrange a taxi.

We found a room for those days in the New Greenpia Tsunan, but I had to send an email, other websites were saying it was full but it wasn’t true. I also wrote to other ryokans in Tsunan city but none answered. I searched for tours in google before getting a room in the hotel, but I couldn’t find any for next year. Maybe it’s too early, not sure. And about taxi, I’m not sure if it’s really an option, because in the website they seem to say they can’t stop around there. But it’s not very clear. I think what people usually do is getting a ticket for the event to have a lantern, which gives you access to Parking there. But I’m not sure if the tickets have been released yet, I haven’t found it. There’s a Facebook page for the event, maybe if you ask them they’ll say sth else.

Taxis, like all cars, can't go to the actual festival venue, but they can go to the parking areas where you can go by shuttle bus.

Hi Rosa,
I’m having trouble making sense of the shuttle bus situation for this festival. I could only get accommodation in Iiyama which I think is about an hour from the festival. Any idea if any shuttle buses or public buses would leave from here and take us back after the Tsunan snow festival? We may have to hire a car instead of not.

Hi, They've put more information in the website about the shuttle bus or car parking https://snowfes.info/. It's in Japanese but translating it with google it's ok. From what I've seen there's a shuttle bus that goes from Tsunan Town Hall and some places around (but only for the 14th), but I think they mention the train stops quite early, before the festival has finished. So if you're in another city staying I think you'll need a car. I think there are tours too and they are going to be announced soon. Also, if you go by car you can't park in the area if you don't have a ticket for the festival. So if you plan to go by car make sure you have a ticket first. Check the options in the website https://snowfes.info/ticket-method/. They'll be on sale from November 25th to December 8th. They also have a fb page, you can try asking them there, they might help. https://www.facebook.com/%E3%81%A4%E3%81%AA%E3%82%93%E9%9B%AA%E3%81%BE...Sorry about the long link, it's because it's in Japanese, the name is: つなん雪まつり snowwave&snowfes I hope this helped a bit
