Tourist brochures for Yamagata prefecture 2019/9/29 10:53
Hi,

I am planning a trip to Yamagata and also Miyagi, is there anywhere I can get English brochures for these prefectures in Tokyo before I go so I can decide on my trip.

I am based near Shibuya but anywhere in Tokyo is fine.

I always see many interesting places in the local tourist information centres, so would like to read them ahead of time if possible to decide my trip.

Thanks
Chris

I've found that antenna shops are a good source for tourist information. Antenna shops are run by prefectural governments, and they sell local foods, drinks and crafts from the particular prefecture they represent. They also generally have a tourist information desk.

Unfortunately these two are on opposite sides of Tokyo, but at least both are in interesting neighborhoods:

If you want English and wanna read about Yamagata ahead of time. Use the internet. Unlimited supply of info. Don't wait until you arrive in Japan for paper formats.

Here is some information on some of the onsen of Yamagata-ken

The website is pretty old because some of the links no longer work, but it lists a lot of smaller onsen areas you don't hear as much about.

Yamagata could certainly do a better job on providing tourist info (especially in non-Japanese), but they do have some crude machine translation set up on their official pages. You didn't say where you are going, but many large and medium sized cities have their own tourist guides online on their official sites these days, so you might have a look at them.
The Tohoku Tourism Promotion Organization also has a page you can use:
