Going abroad while visa being processed?

Hi,
Sorry if the question has already been asked in the past.
I submitted my application for my visa renewal a few days ago. I got my current residence card stamped, I've been told that I have a 2-month extension until I receive the result.
I have a 3-days trip abroad in 10 days so my new residence card might not arrive in time.
I was wondering if I could have an issue if I leave Japan within the 2-month extension and without my new visa. I've asked the immigration officer and it should be fine, but I like to double-check this kind of things.
Does anyone got this situation before? If so, did you have any issues?
Thanks!

Wrong. You submitted an application for extension of your period of stay.
Leaving Japan is no problem as long as you have a valid re-entry permit. If unsure, ask the official that will grant the permit (typically at the border for short trips).
