Work visa after vocational school 2019/11/12 11:17
hello everyone.

I intend to enroll in a Japanese language school in Tokyo for about a year to take JLPT N2. After that, I plan to enroll into a fashion college for 2 years. Recently, I've been doing tons of research regarding work visa requirements since there's so much confusing or conflicting info out there. The general consensus is that one needs to have a bachelor's degree (4 years) to qualify for a work visa however I've also read that things are different for those who have graduated from vocational schools (wZ) and received only 2 or 3 year diplomas in Japan. I read that people who graduate from vocational schools can obtain a work visa if the job they plan to take is related to their major. is this really possible?

Specifically, is that possible for those who graduate from fashion-related vocational schools? Yes, the one I'm considering does give the title of "Senmonshi" (m) upon graduation. It is an accredited school. I know work visas aren't approved for simple labor such as salesclerks, waiters, hairdressing, etc. But if I were to major in styling, fashion business, or fashion technology (I'm considering Styling*) would that still count as "simple labor" and thus not be acceptable for obtaining a work visa even if a company offers a job? also, which Work Visa category would this fall under? (I'm guessing Specialties in Humanities/International Services?)

thanks so much in advance!

*"Styling" and "Hairdressing" are two completely different courses at this school.

First, getting a work visa is not guarantee to get.

Regarding work visa there are many different types.
https://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/long/index.html

Depending on the company you find and the requirement you have to apply for a the suitable visa.
Without work you cannot apply.

As a student, depending on the school, you are allowed to work 28hrs as part time job, this can be done on a student visa but you have to inform immigration your intention.

Hello.

I already know there are many different types of work visas (and part time job conditions). That's why I asked which visa "fashion stylist" might fall under, because I am not too sure. I'm also asking if a 2-year degree from a Japanese vocational school is enough because most sites I've read say a bachelor's degree is a requirement for employers & Immigration yet other sites say it's slightly different for those who've graduated from trade schools after 2 years and receive a job offer for work related to their major.

maybe you should find a company who can arrange the correct visa.
This company is who need to apply for the visa.
You can not apply any visa without any sponsorship.

So you do not need to worry about which visa, you should be searching for a sponsor.

OP wants to know that OP can work in Japan after OP has graduated vocational school.
OP's concern is correct. there seems to be strong regulation for foreigners having vocational school graduation.
some websites, written in Japanese, warn it.

1. some "senmonshi" does not fall into any category of visa type.
2. the work should be directly related to "senmonshi" degree. for example, if you have a "senmonshi" of bookkeeping, (account), you have to work in that field. you can't work in other fields, like human resources, other desk works, translator, sales, etc.

ask the school which you want to enroll. but, I am afraid that they don't know in detail or they don't want to tell you the truth.(because, if they tell you the truth, you don't enter the school.)

Hello.

I contacted the school and a representative of the school told me that there are companies who can obtain a work visa. ( They wrote,urUЂ܂Bv) In addition they also told me there's no problem receiving a Senmonshi in the case of a Stylist. iX^CXg̋AmŖ肠܂BjIt's also written on the school's website that they can assist in employment and obtaining a work visa.

But even if I graduated this school, obtained a 2 year diploma, and a company was willing to hire me and give me a work visa, wouldn't immigration NOT allow that because a 4 year bachelor's degree is typically required to work in Japan?

You can get a work visa! My best friend graduated from a fashion senmon gakko and got a work visa! I myself graduated from a Japanese short time college (2years) and got a work visa for 5years with no problem!
We both got Specialist in humanities visa!

Sorry a gcompanyh cannot give you a work visa. You need an employer to be a sponsor for your visa, and together you (you and your employer-to-be) files an application with immigration, so that you can stay in Japan and work for that company.

Hello. It's been a few days but can any other vocational school graduates (especially fashion school) attest to receiving a work visa?
