7-day JR Pass 2019/11/18 15:08
In March 2020 I plan to visit Mt. Fuji starting from and returning to Shinjuku station. I will have a7-day JR Pass. Will the train travel cost to Mt Fiji be covered by my 7-day pass?

No, travel to Fuji is not fully covered by JR services.

Check the Fuji section of this website to find relevant transport info, which should also be clear about the companies operating the services (JR vs. private company).

Hello Jerry,

If you have a Japan Rail Pass you can ride a part of the Fuji Excursion (Shinjuku – Otsuki) without needing an additional ticket. This means that you will need to buy a ticket for the eOtsuki – Mount Fuji / Fujikyu Highland / Kawaguchikof section of the journey:

Otsuki – Kawaguchiko: 1140 yen
Express fare: 600 yen for adults; 400 yen for children
Total: 1740 yen

Re: Visiting (?) Mount Fuji in March 2019/11/18 20:55
There is no train going to or on Mount Fuji itself.

What is your purpose?
(March is outside the official climbing season for Mount Fuji.)
To have a close view of Mount Fuji,
you can visit Kawaguchiko around the mountain,
which is one of the Fuji Five Lakes,
by railway or bus from Shinjuku.

I will have a7-day JR Pass.

A 7-day Japan Rail Pass
is too expensive, not suitable just for this round trip.
If you combine Kawaguchiko and Hakone,
a Fuji Hakone Pass may be a good deal.

Here in this forum,
many posters have said Fuji to refer actually to a place around the mountain.

starting from and returning to Shinjuku station

Where around Shinjuku Station will you stay?

There exist Shinjuku Stations of five railway operators on many lines;
different Shinjuku Stations have gates of the same or similar names.
You had better know in advance
what gate or entrance for which line you should get to.

The platform number depends on what train you will be taking. If you take a limited express, most will depart from platform 9 or 10. There are bilingual displays all over the station with information about which train departs from what platform.
