JR Tokyo Wide Pass vs JR Pass 2019/11/24 21:51
Hi,
We are planning a 2 weeks trip to Tokto/Mount Nokogiriyama/Fivelakes/Kyoto/Nara/Kobe in May.
We are 2 adults and a 1 yearold.

My first plan was to buy a 14 days JR pass, but then i read about JR Tokyo Wide Pass and now I am little confused. Does JR pass covers everything JR Tokyo Wide Pass does? Or Can we use JR Tokyo Wide Pass
in busses and metro too?

Which ones makes more sense?
1- 14 Days JR pass + IC card for all bus/metro uses in Tokyo+osaka+kyoto
2- 7 days JR pass + JR Tokyo Wide Pass + IC card for Osaka+Kyoto

Thank you in advance

Depends on where you are in Tokyo.

Traveling by subway network(underground) is cheaper than JR, but no city view, no fun.
TWP cannot be used for subways or buses, and is not intended for use only in Tokyo.

Mt.Nokogiri is no worth, you may think that it is unusual as a mt shape.

Hi!

Honestly, what pass, if any makes the most sense for you would depend on your exact itinerary and how flexible you want to be to change your itinerary on a whim.

A JR Pass covers all JR Trains with the exception of the Nozomi and Mizuho shinkansen (and only JR Trains) for 1 week, 2 weeks, or 3 weeks.

A JR Tokyo Wide Pass covers some private line not covered by a regular JR Pass, but does not cover any shinkansen that goes west from Tokyo. It does cover north to Nasu-Shiobara on the Tohoku and Yamagata lines and Northwest to Sakudaira on the Hokuriku line and to Echigo Yuzawa (Gala Yuzawa during ski Season) on the Niigata line. It's also only valid for 3 days.

Good luck!

If you are returning to Tokyo, then depending on your schedule a 7-day pass might pay off if you are doing your long distance travel within seven days. A 14-day pass is a lot more than the cost of Tokyo-Kobe return.
For your travel around Tokyo, the TWP does cover some of the shorter shinkansen journeys (including west of the city), but not south. Your schedule as posted is all short stuff or non-JR, so unlikely to be a cost saver,
Work out the cost of each trip you are going to make, then decide if a pass is less or not.
