Yuzawa one day trip from Tokyo 2020/1/28 15:58
Our family will go to Tokyo Japan. We want to see the nearest snow from Tokyo. Is Yuzawa the nearest place for snow? Is still snowy on 2020 Feb 1 til 5 ? Thank you.

This is a good web page to check snow status:

https://www.snowjapan.com/japan-daily-snow-weather-reports/yuzawa-now

As you can see it is raining... and snow status in general in Japan this year is very low. But you can see pictures on the page of 27-Jan that show that there is snow... just not the same amount of snow that would there be normally. (As you can see from the historic data, last year by this time it had already snowed more than 10 m of snow... this year a mere 1 m).

I remember going to Iwappara (in Yuzawa) a few years back several times in late Jan - early February and there was snow everywhere. The entire valley was full of snow. As you can see from the pictures now, there is no snow in the valley and even on the hill specially in the lower slopes there is bad snow (brownish). If you plan on just seeing snow for the first time in your life, itLs probably okay, but if it is your first time skiing, this snow is really hard (because it is soft) to learn skiing in.

I am not sure if Yuzawa is the closest place from Tokyo for snow, but it is definitely one of the most convenient as it has a Shinkansen station right in the snow park.
