Student visa to working visa conversion

Hello,

Yet another visa question. I am currently studying Japanese at a language school in Niigata, and am working part time as an Eikaiwa with a company that is happy to sponsor my visa when the time comes.

My issue is that I only have a 3 year vocational diploma (equivalent of an associate's degree), and will have a degree from the Japanese language school upon graduation (as well as JLPT N3/N2). I also previously have 12 years (college included) experience in my profession prior to coming to Japan. I was working as an officer in the Merchant Navy, so a highly specialised field which isn't mentioned on the skill labour list. My total experience taching English now is around 6 months, which will be a little over a year upon graduation in March.

So, the expected question, how likely is it that I will be allowed to convert my student visa to a working visa upon graduation?

I believe that the requirements for a language teaching position is either at least a bachelorfs degree (in any subject) or 3 or more years of teaching experience of the language you intend to teach.

Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services
So in your case, working as instructor at Eikaiwa, you'll need to change to "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services", specifically International Services. The look from below information, you don't really meet qualification/requirement but who knows ?

And what do you mean by "degree" from the Japanese language school upon graduation?
Is it just certification of course completion or a degree degree.


(C) In case you are wishing to work in the field of international services which require thought and sense based on culture and language of foreign countries, you must fall under BOTH of 1 and 2 below:

You are going to engage in the activity which are related to the following occupation; Teacher and Instructor of foreign language, Translator, Interpreter, PR (Public Relations), Fashion or Interior design, Product development, Overseas transactions, and Copywriting.
You have working experience or educational background which falls under EITHER of (i) – (iii) below;
(i) you have 3 years or more of working experience in the field of international services and related field business/job.
(ii) you have finished necessary courses/classes related to your intended job in Japan and graduated the university or college (obtaining Bachelor, License or Associate degree or more).
(iii) you have finished the course of vocational/special school (Senshu-Gakkou) in Japan and obtain Senmon-shi degree in the related field for your intended job in Japan.

Hello, thanks for the information. I'm unsure what we will receive after graduation, but being a vocational japanese language course, I know it won't be a bachelor's degree. In the Note section at the end of your post, you have stated

Does this mean that my previous Associate's degree applies, or have I misread that?

Also, could you link me to where you got this information from?

The above is generally in line with my understanding too (myself Japanese with a non-Japanese spouse, who used to be on the international servicesh status).

I have always thought, though, that gassociate degreeh would not be enough to replace a bachelorfs, but maybe that has been relaxed.
