Sakuras at Philosophers Park and Gion 2023/3/26 02:08
Hi, I m due to visit Kyoto btw 31st Mar to 3rd April and am looking forward to viewing the blossoms at philosophers park and Shirakawa Gion. I see that the flowers are already in full bloom mode. Will the sakuras be past peak bloom by then?

Philosopher's Walk Live Camera

There was no live camera of Gion Shirakawa.
The latest information on cherry blossoms in Kyoto can be found here.

According to the page above, Philosopher's Path seems to be 70% blooming.

Thanks v v much. This is helpful. My apologies - I have another q. It seems to be raining at Philosophers Park this morning. Will this accelerate the petals falling? Thanks again

If it's not in full bloom even in the rain, there is a possibility that the flowers will bloom from now on.
The highest temperature today is 12 degrees, but it will continue to be around 20 degrees from tomorrow, so there is a high possibility that the flowers will be in full bloom soon. So it's probably hard to see on March 31st.
You can check if there are that many cherry blossoms left on the live camera, so if it seems likely that the cherry blossoms are over, please visit other cherry blossom spots.
According to Japan Guide's report yesterday, the main spots are already in full bloom.

As an alternative, I can base myself in Tokyo and:
1) Travel to kanazawa (ard the 3rd/4th April); and
2) Do a day trip to mt Fuji…

Can I pls ask how the Sakura forecasts r looking in both locations?

Thanks again.. chasing the sakuras this year is extremely exhausting I must say!!

The Philosopher's Path and Gion Shirakawa may be out of cherry blossom season, but there are other spots in Kyoto where you can see cherry blossoms.
Check out the best times here.
