Onsen place allows visitors with tattoo? 2023/5/26 22:34
Hello,

I am having a trip on Nov-Dec and I would like to know Onsen place allowed visitors with tattoos. If so, can you please recommend some authentic place around Tokyo & Nikko

Thank you

If you do a day trip to Hakone from Tokyo, then I would recommend Tenzan Onsen. They are a tattoo friendly Onsen and a place that I have frequented a number of times when visiting the Hakone tattoo (I have around 30 tattoos of various sizes and have never had an issue at this particular onsen).

Another place that I would recommend, isn't a single place, but a whole area. Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma Prefecture.
Rated as one of Japan's best onsen resort towns, Kusatsu Onsen is also one of the most friendliest and welcoming to visitors with tattoos.
You can visit as a day trip from Tokyo, or have an overnight stay at one of the many ryokans in the area.

Hi!

Please actually research that list from GajinPot because it 100% has some inaccuracies. I've no idea idea if Zao's Dai Rotemboro onsen accepts people with tattoos, but I know no one is going to visit it post skiing because it is closed from the end of November until mid-April.

It's an amazing onsen and I would highly recommend it when it is open.
