Hiking from Asahidake Sanroku to Sugatami

Hi, i would like to know what the route is like to hike from the Asahidake Onsen/Sanroku ropeway station to the Sugatami pond (without taking the ropeway). Is it a steep incline, or is the ground rocky and slippery? We are novice hikers and going in mid October.

I haven't hiked it myself, but I have the strong impression that it is very steep and boring (unless maybe when the timing of the autumn colors happens to best around that elevation). I recommend to hike along the trails that start from the upper ropeway station.
