Gion matsuri schedule - Is Yoiyama a must?

Hi All,
I booked hotel in Osaka for EXPO from 14 to 17 Jul, then I realized there's a pre-Gion matsuri called Yoiyama on 16 Jul :(
Appreciate if anyone can share their experience and advise me please.
1. Is Early Festival Yoiyama Procession Eve on 16 Jul a must?
2. If it's a must, what time should I be in Kyoto in the evening of 16 Jul? Where can I find the agenda for the night please?
3. Will there be any event in the afternoon/evening of 17 Jul? I already booked viewing seat for the morning parade.
4. Will there be any food stall/celebration in the evening of 17 Jul and where should they be located?
It's my 1st time seeing Gion matsuri. Thanks so much.
