Wakayama - Koyasan & Nachi Waterfall 2025/8/8 18:44
Hi All,

Need your expertise please.

1. Usually when is the autumn peak for Koyasan? And what's your recommendation for Shukubo experience?
2. Usually when is the autumn peak for Nachi Waterfall?
3. Is there anyway we can use public transportation (and/or taxi) to near the waterfall? I'll travel with my mom and she has mobility difficulty.
4. Where should I stay near the Nachi/Kii-Katsuura area since I want to spend 2-3 days there?
5. Is there any nice onsen with rotenburo that you would recommend me in the area or anywhere in Wakayama please?
6. Is there any local matsuri in Wakayama from 15 to 29 Nov please?

Thanks million for your advice.

For nice onsen, have a look at the beach onsen at Shirahama?
And/or combine cave onsen with big hotel in Kii Katsura?

Since no one else respond to you except about onsen although have not been to Kumano area, I will post a little bit for your thread;
"The best time to see the autumn leaves at Mount Koya is usually from late October to early November. Early November is said to be the most beautiful. On the Serpentine Path that leads from Kongobuji Temple to Danjogaran, you can walk through a tunnel of autumn leaves."

Foliage at Nachi Waterfall must be later, since it is not high elevation to have cold air, late in mid November. However I don't see trees changing color mostly ever green. I don't know. Someone-else may have correct information.

The nearest town to Nachi Waterfall is Nachi-Katsura. Public JR train is available from Osaka to Kii-katsura by JR Kuroshio Express frequently in every hour.

Religous festivals in Japan are mostly conducted from spring to summer and harvesting season in October. Although searched in network, it is difficult in November.
