Ropeway up Asahidake Onsen 2025/8/16 22:28
We're planning to take the ropeway up Asahidake Onsen and do the Sugatami Pond Loop walk next week. It's summer now but will it be much colder up there or will a normal cardigan be sufficient? Thanks!

It is about 10 degrees cooler than in Asahikawa:

Whether sun is out or not makes a huge difference in how warm it feels. Likewise, strong wind can make it feel colder.

The upper station of the ropeway is called gSugatamih. Asahidake Onsen is located near the lower station (Asahidake Station) of the ropeway.

The weather is prone to change. You can check the current weather conditions at

If you can see the mountains, it's worth going, but if you can't, it's probably not worth it. However, the weather can change rapidly even within a single day, so you need to check the overall cloud conditions in the area to make a decision.

The above website shows the temperature (C) and wind speed (m/s). Roughly speaking, for every 1 m/s increase in wind speed, the perceived temperature drops by 1C. Sunlight raises the perceived temperature.
