Hi,
Driving Sapporo to Biei and back, 2 nights in Oct. Any recommendations since it is not peak flower season? Thinking of stopping in Bibai on return.
We enjoy rural landscapes, small towns, local atmosphere, nothing exciting
Thanks, PH

For "nothing exciting", October is actually a good time for a visit! Harvesting will be mainly over, I think, especially in the later weeks of October. Not many flowers left. But the landscapes are still nice, and there are also fewer tourists. Depending on the timing, the autumn colors could be pretty in the lower elevations (towards late October) or along the mountain slopes (in early October).

The Shirogane Blue Pond is one major popular sight you can see in October. You could also drive around Daisetsuzan.
