Regarding use of JR Tokunai pass

Hi, I am planning to use JR Tokunai pass for my travel in Tokyo. It is valid until Kamata station on the Keihin-Tohoku line. My accomodation is at Kawasaki, 1 station after Kamata station. If I were to go anywhere that actually do not require train changes, for exam Kawasaki station to Tokyo station, do I have to purposely exit at Kamata station, i.e. buy a ticket from Kawasaki station to Kamata station, exit the station, then re-enter the station using my pass to continue the rest of the journey?

At Kawasaki you should insert your Tokunai Pass into the fare adjustment machine and pay the difference.

Thanks Uji for your reply? What if I start my journey at Kawasaki station and end my journey at Tokyo station. Can I enter the Keihin-Tohoku line at Kawasaki station using my Tokunai Pass, and pay the fare adjustment at Tokyo station before exiting?

You should do it the other way round. The ticket gates in Kawasaki would not let you in with just the Tokunai pass, IMO. Better to buy a ticket in Kawasaki just for the short section which is outside the valid area, go straight to Tokyo and just show both the pass and that ticket to the staff in Tokyo when exiting the ticket gate.

On your Suica card, you can load Tokunai Pass, at a JR multifunction ticket vending machine inside the Tokunai Area. (Only one pass of one kind can be loaded.)
Basic fares for sections outside the JR Tokunai Area are deducted from your Suica e-money.
IC transportation cards of other brands (PASMO, ICOCA, etc,) cannot be used for this purpose.
For Tokunai Pass to pay off, you may need many train rides.
You start from and go back to Kawasaki Station, which means you pay 1094 yen ( = 760 yen for Tokunai pass + (2 x 167) yen for Kamata -- Kawasaki round trip).
Is Kawasaki Station convenient for your hotel?
In Kawasaki City, there are many railway stations, on several lines.

No, you donft need to exit at Kamata. You can simply pay the fare from Kawasaki to Kamata and then continue your journey using the JR Tokunai Pass without exiting the station.
