Skyliner discount tickets - Pickup? 2026/3/18 18:26
Dear Community,

I need some first hand experience here, please, no speculation. I have done quite some research but reached a dead end:

I want to take the Skyliner from Narita to Nippori (return trip) and have the option to buy the discounted tickets for non-japanese visitors for which you have to present a passport upon pickup/exchange.

I did this some years ago and remember I had to queue at a special desk with a very long line to get the tickets exchanged. The time I lost there was not worth the small amount I safed by prebooking.

However, these days the homepage states I can exchange the tickets even at a ticket machine, which is in contrast to what I experienced.

Adding to this an enquiry by email states I can (have to?) use the manned desk but omits to adress the ticket machine option.

Long story short:
Can I pick up discounted Skyliner (round-trip) tickets with passport confirmation at an automated ticket machine? (face-recognition is not an option)

Thank you so much
Jan

Short and factual answer
For discounted Skyliner round-trip tickets for foreign visitors:
In official practice you still need to exchange the voucher to receive a seat-reserved ticket before boarding.
This exchange is formally handled at staffed counters at Narita Airport Terminal 1 or Terminal 2-3.
The QR voucher itself is not valid for direct boarding.
- So yes — queues can still be an issue.
What about ticket machines?
This is where the confusion comes from.
Keisei now states that some ticket machines have a gcode exchangeh function allowing you to scan a QR voucher and print the ticket.
However, in real operation this depends on:
the exact product type
station configuration
and whether passport eligibility verification is required
For certain visitor-discount products (especially round-trip tickets)
staff may still direct you to a manned counter.
Important limitation for round-trip tickets
Official information also states:
Round-trip discounted Skyliner tickets can only be exchanged at Narita Airport stations (T1 or T2-3)
— not at Nippori or Ueno.
This shows the process is not fully gmachine-basedh yet.
Real-world recent traveler experience
Recent reports indicate:
some travelers successfully used machines
others were still required to queue at the counter despite having a QR voucher
So the system is operationally inconsistent.
Realistic conclusion (2026 situation)
- You cannot rely with certainty on being able to pick up discounted round-trip Skyliner tickets at an automated machine.
Officially: machine exchange exists
Practically: passport-verified discount tickets may still require counter service
- If time is critical, you should not plan assuming the machine option will work.

You didn't even have the initiative to do that, and you're still saying things you don't know.

@admin

Can you please ban the attention seeking troll and delete the KI-generated post that doesn't have any value to the topic and just wastes our time? Thank you very much :)

Hello DrRodriges.

Could you perhaps guide us to "the homepage" that states you "can exchange the tickets even at a ticket machine"?

Because I'm looking at the official homepage of Keisei Skyliner and it says nothing about the possibility of exchanging at ticket machines.
https://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/skyliner/us/tickets/coupon.php

I wonder if we're talking about the same discount ticket.

Please help us help you.

Dear Uco, thank you as always for your time and dedication

I am refering to this service:
https://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/skyliner/e-ticket/en/usage/ind...

I clearly states the option of using a ticket machine. However... well, see above.
I was hoping to hear from someone who had recently used it as even official sources are contradicting.

As the discount is only about 600Yen for us, please, don't invest too much time into this matter!
I am happy to buy the tickets on location and have only the outward-journey discounted.
However, if a user has recent fist-hand-experience, I'd be happy to benefit from it :)
