Kumamoto to Takachiho Gorge

Wondering if anyone has done this through a tour group. We would love to go see Mt. Aso and the gorge if possible, just wondering if the long day is worth it.

I think it depends on the person.

People who like a slow pace will already find a one-way trip from Kumamoto via Aso to Takachiho too much for a single day.

People who like a medium pace, they will be okay to start the day, see Aso and then overnight in Takachiho.

But only people who like a fast pace and do not mind spending hours on a bus will want to make this in a round trip on a single day.

I personally think Kumamoto-Aso-Takachiho is a wondeful route, and public transportation has recently improved thanks to a direct bus from Aso Station to Takachiho. But the most convenient way to do the trip is by car. It saves you much time and gives you more flexibility.
