Hi, I like to know what's the chances of getting seats from Asakusa to Atami for 5 people with medium size luggages after 9am on 14/5/26 on local train? Or should I head to Tokyo to get Shinkasen? We are not rushing for time

If you're not in a rush and taking rapids or local trains. Then you'll have no issues wirh seating.
Potentially you may have to stand to Tokyo or Shinagawa. But after that, the trains tend to be empty in that direction of travel.
I'd suggest a train from Tokyo to Odawara. Then what gets you to Atami from there.
You a timetable planner or googlemaps to see what timings work best for you.

I do potentially see a problem with 5 medium sized bags, specifically if they are check in luggage and people stand next to one another on the train. I also agree that once you get to outer Tokyo then it normally gets less busy outside of peak hour unless there is some sort of event we are unaware of

The local train to Atami has a green car. So you could get a supplement ticket for it if you are worried about sitting.
