Only one more day.... 2007/8/2 17:29
Try my pages on Kyoto. I do not mean to plug them, but they have photos of different things and you can see for yourself.

Teramachi fish market is worth a visit. Near Daimaru in the middle of town. You can taste test and the shopping is good, not just fish!.

Also try and end up in Gion in the evening, great athmosphere.

The best shopping in japan is around the two streets leading to Kiyomisudera. Others can debate it, but that crazy crowded area is worth a couple of hours if you have them.

For myself, I'd eliminate the Imperial Palace - it's time-consuming and frankly not that interesting. Rather, it would be better (given good weather) to walk down the Philosopher's Path from Ginkakuji to the other attractions in the Higashiyama area such as Kodaiji and Kiyomizudera. For the additional day, Arashiyama with its temples is great, as is a day trip to Uji and Fushimi. And, though Gion Corner is a bit touristy, it makes for an enjoyable evening of concentrated Japanese performance arts.
