Respect For Aged Day Tokyo 2007/8/14 16:01
We will be in Tokyo on Sept.17, Respect for the Aged Day. I noticed that the fish market is closed. In general, what else might be closed on this day (museums, historical sites, restaurants, gardents, etc.)?
Are there any ceremonies or events held on this day which we might find interesting?
Would this be a bad day to visit Hakone?

Thank you,
Eve

The fish market is the only major tourist attraction, closed on a public holidays, that I can think of.

Most shops and restaurants will also be opened.

Among the few things closed are banks and post offices.

Yes. You can expect Hakone to be extremely crowded. I recommend to visit Hakone on a weekday.
