Shiretoko in September 2007/8/27 03:15
We want to visit Shiretoko national park at mid september. Is it recommended to visit this time of year?
Would you recommend to take the boat trip?
We also wanted how to get to Utoro by train and bus from Sapporo, and how much will it cost.
Thank you!

Several years ago, I went to Shiretoko in September with friends and autumnal leaves were very beautiful. But I recommend you to rent a car to explore this area. Buses from the nearest station to the National Park are scarce.

I also suggest that you should go to NOTORI lake to see SANG-SO (glassworts).

Fall foliage in late September to early October in Shiretoko Peninsula is beautiful. Take JR train from Sapporo to Kushiro and from here change train. The next train will take you from Kushiro to Shiretoka Sari station. From here, you take direct bus to Utoro ( about half an hour journey). The bus station is right in front of Sari station. The bus and train schedules are well co-ordinated . We missed the boat cruise because of bad weather. The cruise would take you all the way to the northeastern tip of the peninsula. We used the Hokkaido pass during our visit last year.
