should we stay near Tokyo station ? 2007/8/28 03:53
Hello. I am planning a trip in April with 2 children 18 and 16. We know nothing about Tokyo. We arrive in Narita and then have 2 days in Tokyo before going to Kyoto. I worry about the transport as we don't speak Japanese. My question is: we need a hotel that is on the Narita Express line but that is also near the station (Tokyo station?) for our trip to Kyoto. (I found the Marunuchi but it's too expensive!) Is it a good idea to stay near Tokyo station for sightseeing or should we stay somewhere else. Ikuburo looks good - would it be easy for us to get to Tokyo station for our trip to Kyoto if we stay in that area? Thankyou very much

Have you looked at Shinjuku? There are many hotels around there, or a "neutral" location as I call it, would be hotels near Shinagawa Station. Some Narita Express stop at Shinagawa, and some Shinkansen also stop at Shinagawa, so you have handled two birds with one stone if the trains that stop at those stations fit your schedule. Shinagawa Station is not too far from Tokyo Station if you needed to go to Tokyo Station.

Near Shinagawa Station are the following major hotels (located across the street or within walking distance):
LeMeridien Pacific Hotel Tokyo

Shinagawa Prince Hotel:

(I suggest rooms in either the MAIN tower or ANNEX tower at this hotel, the other two parts (NORTH and EAST towers) of the hotel are much older and smaller (but cheaper))

Stay near? 2007/8/28 12:54
Hi Newbie
I have stayed at that hotel
once, nice but not cheap.
I prefer to stay in Shinjuku on arrival and near Tokyo
station when leaving.
This year I will be at "Yaesu
Fujiya" which I have again stayed at before when leaving.
I think perhaps look at these
sites for ideas.
AsiaRooms.com
and
JapanHotel.net
and look at close hotels near stations etc to give you some ideas.
Also the JNTO site may help to.
I find it always pays to have a place to stay within 10 minutes from the train staions after a hard day but in Shinjuku I like to walk in the park in the early morning so stay a little further away.
Good luck
