I am just about to join an Aikido class and I am sure it is traditional to take a small gift for the Sensei. Any suggestions as to what would be appropriate?

Presents for sensei 2007/9/1 04:33
I've been studying Aikido off-and-on for about 25 years. I lived in Japan for 3 years and whilst there attended several different dojo, including the Aikikai Hombu Dojo. Throughout this time I've never seen any new student (experienced or raw beginner) come in with a present for sensei. I don't entirely discount that it happens, just that I've never seen it.

Your mileage may vary.

thanks for the advice folks! Have now been to class and you were right - there was no need for a gift. And yes, I did pay my subs on time!
