I'd like to apply to teach at one of the international schools in the Tokyo area, such as the American School in Japan. I read on their website what they offer for a salary, and that the offer a housing allowance, but they didn't specify the amount of the allowance. I need to know before I enquire if I can afford to live. I'll have my two kids with me as well. I

I suspect the housing allowance will be around 120,000yen/month. They will probably also assist you with the setting up costs, such as key money, agent's commission, etc. Does that mean you have yourself & 2 kids, or yourself & spouse & 2 kids?? It is a fact that International Schools in Japan will often prefer to employ single teachers, as it costs more to employ a person with a family. Your kids would be entitled to a reduction in School fees, which are substantial.
