7 day or 14 JR rail pass? 2007/9/8 15:17
Hi

I'm planning to visit Japan for 3 weeks during Dec/Jan.
My trip will look something like this:

SAPPORO
TOKYO
MT FUJI
KYOTO
OSAKA
TOKYO

I was wondering if a week is enough to cover Tokyo-Mt Fiji-Kyoto-Osaka-Tokyo. I'm trying to decide whether I should get a 7 day JR rail pass or a 14 day one. I will be flying from Sapporo to Tokyo so I won't need rail transport there.

Minus Sapporo yes it is possible to visit those places within a week, but it all depends on the traveler and time management. Though it is not climbing season in Dec/Jan for Fuji.

If you like to travel at a fast pace, Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka - Mount Fuji - Tokyo can be done in one week and a 7-day Japan Rail Pass would be a good ticket to use. A 14-day pass would not pay off for that itinerary.

If you like a slow pace of travel, the itinerary would be too packed and probably not so enjoyable.
